Welcome to the Joe Shung Archive, an ongoing project by artist and photographer Justin Suazo to digitize the photographs and film footage of his grandfather, Joe Shung, captured from 1935 to 1975. Joe Shung was an airplane mechanic by trade and an avid amateur photographer and filmmaker at heart. At a young age he emigrated from China to the United States in 1929 where he adopted the American Way: Kodak, Cowboys, and Coca-Cola. This project is dedicated to Shirley Shung-Suazo, the daughter of Joe Shung and the mother of Justin Suazo, a lover of the arts, photography, and archives. In this project her inspiration and influence lives on.
